Sam was raised in a musical family in the piedmont of North Carolina. At a young age he was exposed to a diverse amount of music from all over the world.
He began his professional music career at the age of 9, as the leader and arranger of a steel pan trio, who enjoyed local success and recording opportunities. After going to New Orleans in 2006, he became inspired to study piano more seriously. He was accepted to the Weaver Academy school for the performing arts where he finished a classical music pedagogy while simultaneously performing with the Greensboro College big band and the UNC-Greensboro honors jazz band.
Now a student at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Sam brings youthful energy and a mature musical understanding to every performance. As a multi-instrumentalist he has shared the stage with artists such as Anders Osborne, Toubab Krewe, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Walter “Wolfman” Washington, Jeff Sipe, Ivan Neville, and Donna the Buffalo.
